Just when you thought Reacher could not get any better; season 3 comes along. In a word? It is awesome. Alan Ritchson is a good fit for the titular character of the show. This season’s opening episodes confirms it. Tom Cruise stepped into the shoes first. However, Ritchson has clinched the deal, he is Reacher.

the story
Reacher is selling vinyl records in a used record shop. He spies someone being kidnapped. He steps in and kills a cop. Reacher joins the kidnap victim’s family business. Beck senior is a rug dealer.
Fast forward, or flash back, and we learn this was a setup. Run by Sarah Duffy who wants to get the owner of the rug business and his LA drug connection as well. She enlists the help of Reacher.

longish side note
Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz is an almost dead ringer for the brilliant Tim Curry in this season of Reacher. *The Rocky Horror Picture Show made Curry a star. Until he suffered a stroke in 2012, he was pretty much a permanent fixture on screens the world over. Rodriguez-Saenz looks like a dark doppelganger and he even uses some of Curry’s bonafide facial grimaces and grins. I was, in a word, delighted.
it works
The first three episodes of Reacher: Season 3 have a lot to offer. A double barrelled plotline and a chance for those who want that sort of thing, a chance to see Ritchson in the “almost” all-together.
I defy anyone to not fall heads over heels in love with Brit actor Sonya Cassidy. She, despite that “Brooklynese” accent, charms and captivates every single time she is on screen. A trait that she shares with Maria Sten.
Richters is delightfully ogre-ish every time he comes in contact with anyone and Anthony Michael Hall excels at being obnoxious and overbearing.
This is almost a masterclass in how to bring characters to living breathing life.
The Verdict
Reacher: Season 3 is a full 5 star effort. It is streaming on Prime at the moment and episode 4 will drop on February 27.
