Can the cast of “Sing” take on a Halloween thriller? They’re about to find out in the special short “Sing: Thriller.” This time, the cast performs a spirited version of the hit Michael Jackson song. The real thrills occur when Buster Moon and the team find themselves at a spooky party. What follows is an homage to classic horror and the famous music video for Jackson’s song. “Sing” writer and director Garth Jennings once again does triple duty for the short, additionally voicing Miss Crawly.

Chris Meledandri is the producer of “Sing: Thriller.” The head of Illumination has steered franchises like “Despicable Me,” “Minions,” and “The Secret Life of Pets” to success. Last year, the animation studio added another blockbuster title to its filmography with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” It has grossed over a billion dollars and remains a favorite with gaming fans.
The film series’ talented cast returns for this short. Matthew McConaughey voices New Moon Theater operator Buster Moon. Others returning include Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll, Scarlett Johansson, and Taron Egerton. Reese Witherspoon, who voices Rosita in “Sing” and “Sing 2,” is not listed among the short’s cast.
The short’s official synopsis:
After staging a spectacular version of Thriller at the New Moon Theatre, Buster Moon and the cast of SING leave to celebrate at Clay Calloway’s Halloween party. But when our heroes arrive at the party, they discover a mysterious, multi-colored ooze that has transformed Clay and his guests into dancing freaks.
Celebrate Halloween with the rhythm, fun, and frights of “Sing: Thriller.” The animated short debuts only on Netflix on October 16. Watch the trailer below.
