
FINE-LOOKING FRIDAY: After the frosty start to the day, we are basking under a sky full of sunshine across Alabama today. Temperatures this afternoon are climbing into the low and mid 60s for much of North and Central and South Alabama. Tonight will be another clear and cold one, but temperatures will be about ten degrees warmer than last night, expect upper 30s and lower 40s.
BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For March 21st, the average high for Birmingham is 69° and the average low is 46°. The record high is 90° set in 1907, while the record low is 19° set in 1965. We average 0.18” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.88” set in 1929.
ACROSS THE USA: Gusty winds and dry conditions will continue elevated to critical fire weather today over parts of the central and southern Plains, Ozarks, and eastern Florida Peninsula. Critical fire weather will continue through Saturday in the southern Plains. Wet weather continues across the Pacific Northwest as mountain snow spreads into the Northern Rockies by the weekend.
SPLENDID SPRING WEEKEND: The weekend will be dry for Alabama and will feature plenty of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday. Lows in the 40s and highs in the low and mid 70s are expected. A cold front will approach Alabama Sunday night, bringing band of showers and a few thunderstorms into the state. The SPC maintains a low end “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for areas north and west of Birmingham for Sunday night and into Monday. With little to no surface based instability and weak dynamic support, the overall severe weather threat in Alabama is low, But, heavier storms could produce some small hail and gusty winds.
NEXT WEEK: Lingering showers are possible over South Alabama Monday, otherwise the week looks dry and pleasant with highs in the low 70s and low in the 40s and 50s. Both high and low temperatures are pretty close to seasonal average for late March in Alabama. Overall, it will be a very nice, and quiet final week of March.
