\nDefined<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n# 20 \u2013 Influencers<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\nMatthew 5:13<\/span><\/b>,
\n\u201cYou are the salt of the earth, but if
\nsalt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer
\ngood for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people\u2019s feet.\u201d <\/i>(ESV)<\/span><\/p>\n\nJesus\u2019
\nanalogy of salt was an extremely profound one. A huge jar of unused salt will
\nbenefit no one. However, even a little salt added to any dish will make a big difference
\nto it\u2019s taste. The presence of salt will not go unnoticed, so also it\u2019s absence.
\nIf salt loses its saltiness it will become totally useless. <\/span><\/p>\n\nJesus
\nreferred to us as the \u2018salt of the earth\u2019<\/i>
\nto help us understand that we the church are chosen to be a godly influence in
\nthis world. While we are happy to congregate as \u2018salt\u2019<\/i> somehow, we have failed to let this saltiness penetrate into
\nevery area of our lives and various spheres of society. Jesus cautions us that
\nif we become \u2018tasteless,\u2019<\/i> we lose the
\nability to effect change in people and situations around us, and also resulting
\nin us becoming useless.<\/span><\/p>\n\nThink
\nof all the people whom Jesus influenced while He was here on earth; his
\ndisciples, the multitudes that followed Him, his earthly family, the religious
\nleaders, the sick, the outcast, the sorrowing, the demon possessed, the tax
\ncollectors, and political leaders of His day. Every one of them who encountered
\nJesus were affected in some way and were not the same again. <\/span><\/p>\n\nIn
\nRomans 12:2 <\/b>we read, \u201cDon\u2019t copy the behavior and customs of this
\nworld, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you
\nthink.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0(NLT). Over the years, we have permitted the values and
\nlifestyle of the world like materialism, dissensions, immorality, corruption
\nand the like to replace godly values and thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n\nIn
\nRevelation Chapter 3:14-22<\/b> the Lord
\naddressed the church at Laodicea. These are His words in verses 15-16,<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI know all the things you do, that you are
\nneither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!<\/i><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will
\nspit you out of my mouth!<\/span><\/i> (NLT).\u00a0 <\/span>The problem with this church was that they
\nhad been consumed by materialism and self-sufficiency which brought them to a
\nplace of indifference. What happened as a result was that they were unable to
\nevaluate themselves aright or see themselves from God\u2019s divine perspective and
\nhad become of no value to Him. It was to this church that the Lord said, in Revelation 3:20<\/b>, \u201c<\/i><\/span>Behold, I stand at
\nthe door and knock.\u201d <\/i>(ESV). It seems that the Lord was shut out of the
\nchurch, and was seeking permission to re-enter, in order to renew the
\nfellowship that He once had with them.<\/span><\/p>\n\nThe Lord has chosen us to be His representatives, which implies that we reflect Him in our speech, conduct, relationships, values, character and holiness. We are reminded from 1 Peter 2:12<\/b>, \u201cBe careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when He judges the world.\u201d<\/i> (NLT)\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nSomeone said this so brilliantly, \u201cThe church can never be the salt of the earth, if we keep sugar-coating our messages.\u201d<\/i> Charles Spurgeon<\/b> said this so aptly, \u201cI believe one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church.\u201d\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
\nAs \u2018the salt of the earth\u2019 may we influence those around us to seek the Lord and enter His Kingdom.<\/p>\n
