
you’ve always known there was Something Bad. you feel it every day of your life. you can’t place it and you don’t know what it is. it’s probably a perpetual tantrum or teenage angst. and you tell yourself it will pass when you grow up and have to pay bills and have insurance and whatever big people do. but it doesn’t, it sticks a flag in the surface of your heart and claims home.
you keep waking up Mum and telling her to peek outside the window real carefully to see if she can see the people chanting and drumming, and she looks back at you every time with a soft smile and tells you to stop watching Harry Potter. (which is a little ironic cause even Ron tells Harry “hearing voices no one else can hear isn’t a good sign, even in the wizarding world”). you don’t ask her…
