The Monster Mother, by Jim McKenzie

Jim Mckenzie´s sculpting art blew us away again, with his 2018 sculpture of The Monster´s Mother. This stop motion video process follows the creation of Jim´s version of Frankestein Mother:

“Stitched together, alive yet dead, Frankenstein’s monster has been a relatable character to many. As someone who has undergone an almost fatal brain surgery as a child I have always felt a strange connection to this character. He has been portrayed time after time in countless variations, which is why I wanted to take this opportunity to explore a character in the Frankenstein universe that has yet to be written; his mother.

“The Monster’s Mother” is a character I’ve created based on what I think the mother of Frankenstein’s monster would have looked like, primarily if the story took place in 1950’s middle America. While I was starting the process of sculpting this character I thought it best to capture each step of her creation in the form of a stop motion animation. This video is the result of that process.

Original Score by Zac Silva and Roshane Karunaratne”
