This Wednesday, Delta opened its doors to the latest SkyClub on the airline’s network and the first-ever at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, elevating the travel experience for all eligible Delta customers flying in and out of the Queen City. The new and expansive 14,000-plus-square-foot Club is located on the mezzanine level of CLT’s recently expanded Concourse A, with enough space for almost 250 guests, overlooking both the airfield and concourse below.
Delta has opened its first SkyClub at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, featuring a 14,000-square-foot space that accommodates nearly 250 guests. The lounge incorporates Neoclassic design inspired by Queen Charlotte. Meanwhile, Delta’s new Boston Delta One lounge aims to enhance the business class experience with exclusive dining and maritime-themed decor. Both lounges symbolise Delta’s commitment to improving ground experiences.

Delta isn’t shy of design details when it comes to the ground experience. Part of us wishes the same creativity and playful flair used in the ground experience would continue through to the latest cabin designs. This Neoclassic design draws inspiration from city-namesake Queen Charlotte and her long-lasting influence on fashion and aesthetics, with “an emphasis on botany and bold, floral motifs. The natural elements and materials featured in the Club highlight Charlotte’s tree conservatory efforts and green spaces, honouring the city’s deep ties to nature.”

Being a lounge for so many, there is a large food buffet, two beverage stations and a dedicated quiet space with six soundproof booths (including an ADA-compliant option) for focused work. Delta have really embraced the fact that these premium spaces are less about formal business class passengers, and the evolved premium passenger who may also be just as likely travelling for leisure.

“It’s always exciting to plant roots in a new market and introduce Delta Sky Club to a new group of customers,” said Claude Roussel, Vice President – Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience. “We can’t wait for our Charlotte guests to experience the amenities and hospitality that have made our Clubs so popular across the country.”

Boston’s Delta One Lounge
Meanwhile, at the start of December, Delta’s latest Delta One Boston Logan lounge joined Los Angeles and New York in a bid to improve the airline’s international business class ground experience. Accessible through the Delta Sky Club on Concourse E, this 6,700-square-foot exclusive dining lounge will offer guests a one-of-a-kind culinary experience, developed by highly acclaimed and decorated chef Ed Brown.

Although there’s an emerging design bible to the spaces, including fine-dining restaurant spaces, somewhat retro bistro-styling and colourful immersive art installations. “No two Delta One Lounges are alike – with each new space, we strive to create something truly special and distinct to the host city, while never compromising on service or quality,” said Claude Roussel, Vice President – Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience.

“We know our guests value the exclusivity and hospitality of dining at a Delta One Lounge. This lounge is designed to deliver the elevated, VIP experience guests want — an experience that draws inspiration from the history and culinary traditions of Boston.”

Similar to the adjacent BOS-E Sky Club, the look and feel of the Delta One Lounge pays homage to Boston’s maritime heritage, with standout features like a custom-designed sail ceiling. Both the ceiling and bar shape nod to the USS Constitution or “Old Ironsides,” the world’s oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat, which resides in Boston Harbour.

The nautical theme continues in other more subtle ways, like a foot rail at the base of the bar and a metal cage overhead. Bronze accents at the bar and in the atmospheric custom lighting, along with shades of blue marine in the banquettes, dining chairs and custom carpet, further echo the maritime theme.

At the heart of the lounge is the dining room complete with Boston Harbour and city skyline views while you dine. Guests can receive a three-course meal in less than an hour, with elevated seafood dishes like a warm Maine lobster roll, octopus carpaccio and cod Milanese on the menu. A chef’s daily local fish selection will be served a la plancha.

We love both of these new lounges, it seems that while North American airlines are lagging behind when it comes to passenger experience onboard, the race is clearly on with the ground experience. 2025 should be a very exciting year for the the USA’s ground experience.
