

The body governing football in the world, FIFA has reinstated one of the banned countries, Pakistan ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA announced the suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after the PFF Congress approved constitutional amendments mandated by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). According to reports, the body the suspension, imposed in February, was removed following a meeting in Lahore where necessary changes were made.
The statement read thus,
“The Bureau of the Fifa Council decided on March 2, 2025, to lift the suspension that was imposed on the PFF on February 6, 2025.”
FIFA suspended the PFF in 2017 and 2021 due to third-party interference. Its last ban was lifted in June 2022 after the PFF’s normalisation committee said it had regained full control of the federation’s premises and finances.
The Pakistani FA thanked FIFA for the support that has been showed to them in the past and also congratulated the Football community.
It read as follows,
“We thank FIFA and AFC for their continued support of Pakistan football and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistan football community,”
The lifting of the suspension means that Pakistan will return to nternational football activities, including participating in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Pakistan’s national team will face Syria.
