Alabama Football 2025: Spring Roster Update

Spring practice for Alabama kicked off yesterday, and with it, the Tide released the new numbers for all of the new additions to the roster as well as a few number changes from returning players.

New Numbers

RB – AK Dear – 0

WR – Isaiah Horton – 1

CB – Dijon Lee – 5

LB – Justin Hill 8

CB – Cam Calhoun – 9

QB – Keelon Russell – 12

S – Ivan Taylor – 13

LB – Fatutoa (Kevonte) Henry – 14

WR – Lotzeir Brooks – 17

DL – Kelby Collins – 17

TE – Marshall Pritchett – 18

RB – Dre Washington – 20

DL – Steve Mboumoua – 25

LB – Luke Metz – 26

WR – Derek Meadows – 30

P- Alex Asparuhov – 32

LB – Abduall Sanders – 35

P – Blake Doud (walk on) – 38

LB – Nikhai Hill-Green – 41

OL – Mal Waldrep – 52

OL – Michael Carroll – 64

OL – Micah DeBose – 65

OL – Kam Dewberry – 71

OL – Arkel Anugwom – 76

OL – Jackson Lloyd – 78

TE – Peter Knudson (walk on) – 86

Some interesting tidbits:

  • Not a single player took a number in the 90s, and the only player in the 80s is walk-on transfer tight end, Peter Knudson. At this point we might as well just eliminate the 80s and 90s.
  • WR Derek Meadows taking 30 is definitely an eye catcher. The 30s for receivers seem to usually only be the walk ons that couldn’t get into the 1-20 range. And, apparently, we all hate the 80s so much we’d rather be a WR in the 30s.
  • Steve Mboumoua at 25 is going to look funny.
  • Keelon Russell at 12 just feels right, as does Lotzeir Brooks taking 17.

Number Changes

WR Jaylen Mbakwe – 9 to 3

RB Daniel Hill – 20 to 4

WR Jalen Hale – 14 to 8

LB Justin Jefferson – 15 to 10

DL Jordan Renaud – 90 to 11

  • Sigh… Yet another DL bailed on the 90s for a small number. I really hate this trend, if you can’t tell.
  • None of the others are particularly upsetting or exciting. Good for these guys for getting a number they wanted more.

We also got a lot of updated weights from the the roster. Most of the players seemed to stay within a few pounds of their old weights, but there were a few notable changes.

Notable Weight Changes

LB – Deontae Lawson – 239 to 230

LB – Qua Russaw 251 to 241

S – Zay Mincey 180 to 205

LB -Jah-Marien Latham 278 to 265 (LB now)

S – Dre Kirkpatrick Jr 210 to 200

LB – Yhonzae Pierre – 223 to 248

OL – Olaus Alinen – 335 to 325

OL – Kadyn Proctor – 369 to 360

OL – Jaeden Roberts – 310 to 325

DL – Isaia Faga – 299 to 290

DL – Jeremiah Beaman – 296 to 312

  • There were some pretty big changes at linebacker. Deontae Lawson and Qua Russaw both dropped about 10 pounds, presumably to add speed to their game. I think Russaw played a little heavy last season, and this will hopefully improve his pass rush.
  • Defensive lineman Jah-Marien Latham also dropped another 13 pounds, and is now listed as a linebacker. I assume he’ll be a short-yardage rotational role with Russaw at wolf as a jumbo stand up linebacker.
  • Zay Mincey is really embracing his move from corner to safety, and has added 25 pounds since last year.
  • Jeremiah Beaman wants to be a legit nose tackle! The dude is really bulking.
