Arcade Heroes Sega Details More On Maimai DX USA Release

One month ago, we received our first word on Sega’s Maimai DX rhythm game coming to Amusement Expo 2025, via an announcement by the recent test location Velocity eSports to recruit players. Confirmation was quickly provided to us by a representative of Sega Amusements. Now, the latter is sharing more details on the game’s USA launch appearance there and upcoming release, alongside some further information posted by the game’s own official Facebook page the other day. Let’s give it all a look over.

Maimai DX Comes To The US Late Summer

If you are new to the arcade industry, Amusement Expo International is held every Spring in March to showcase new arcade titles that will be launching in the Summer. Thanks to the same spokesperson who confirmed that Maimai DX would be appearing at this expo as a part of Sega Amusements’ booth, we have additional information to share with you, along with a press release.

First off, here’s an ad that they shared online in regards to the AEI appearance:

Of the bites of information given here, it’s nice that they are offering 100 AIME cards as a sweetener. And over 1100 songs is an impressive amount, although it does note here that the number “may vary”. Games like StepManiaX and Pump It Up Phoenix have somewhere over 500 songs. Granted, Sega has been releasing this game for more than a decade now in Asia, and they have a lot of inhouse music to put on there, e.g. this below famous racing game theme. I’m sure the Sonic the Hedgehog songs will prove particularly popular among many customers who will come across the game.

Also, we learn from this promo that the game has sold quite well (Getting 1,000 units is a feat in recent years, much less 5,000+). Twitter/X user ichiki noticed that it shows the latest Prism version when what’s been on test has been Buddies, and a post from the game’s own official Facebook page is claiming Buddies Plus will be at AEI; however, the official game page for Maimai DX on Sega Amusements’ site shows the Prism version, so until we hear otherwise, it looks like they are keeping the US release up to speed with the Asian ‘International’ version. I have asked for clarification.

But the big question for many is – when will this game begin shipping?

According to Sega Amusements, “production should hit in Aug/Sep”.

I imagine Round1USA will be getting first priority here with units, given how well it has tested for them, but as with the other big recent rhythm game launch in the West, other operators can still order it up in advance.

Nothing has been said yet about whether or not Europe will also enjoy the release, which I have been asked about by some readers, but I will be following up on that at the Expo. If it is happening I would expect it to come a little later due to the extensive song licensing though. Should anyone out there have requests for something to film at AEI, let me know sooner rather than later so I can get it on my agenda.

Additional Details

A few other notes to copy over from the official page:

  • New music annual upgrade.
  • AIME card lets players store their progress.
  • Free 100 AIME cards included with every game purchase.
  • Free ‘How to Play’ promo roller banner included with every game.
  • Link up to two twin cabinets for four-player action.
  • 2.1 channel player speakers with woofer

Confirmation of the AIME support is great and I would note that there is no mention of monthly fees. That could well just be an omission, but if not, it would be welcome; StepManiaX has operated without the need to charge for their network (although there are some paid songs that you can buy if you wish). If a “small fry” can do that, then why not a larger fish…

One distributor that has listed the game on their site told me that it was “crazy” the response that they’ve been getting, seeing as high as 50 calls a week asking about the game. So the battle between the different companies and their rhythm games is really beginning to heat up.

Here’s the press release, and keep in mind that we’ll have some hands-on footage of this game when it comes to Amusement Expo just two weeks from now!
