Summer is in full swing when Daisy drives back into Wynmouth in her almost-clapped-out car, having left both her most recent job and the man her parents thought she was going to marry. Coming home could be just what she needs to move her life on.

At Wynbrook Manor, things are in disarray. Owner Algy isn’t getting any younger, and Daisy’s mum Janet, housekeeper at the manor, spends her days running around after him, while Daisy’s dad Robin, the gardener, has been let down by the person he had lined up to take care of the new cut-flower garden.

As Daisy tries to find her place at Wynbrook and in the village, she’s drawn to summer visitor Josh. But when he turns out to be not the person he appears to be, will the spark between them fizzle out? And with it, the chances of this turning into the best summer ever?

Best Summer Ever is Heidi Swain’s twentieth novel and another set in the coastal village of Wynmouth, which has featured in numerous books, the story follows Daisy as she returns to the village after catching her boyfriend in a compromising position with a colleague at work.

Daisy has always been a bit of a dreamer. She’s never known what she wanted to do in life and so she flitted from job to job trying to find the one, something which annoyed her parents and they had hoped that Laurence, her now ex-partner, would straighten out of her and so they are not happy that she is back home and newly single.

Daisy begins helping her parents out at Wynbrook Manor and in doing so she finds something she enjoys doing and her parents see a different side to her. The more involved Daisy becomes the more confident she feels and as such she feels more grounded.

This is a story of one young woman discovering herself and learning to trust in her abilities. Along the way she also gets close to American backpacker Josh who seems to annoy her constantly at the beginning but a warmth presents itself as the book progresses.

Best Summer Ever is a wonderfully inviting story that is filled with glorious moments and set in a beautiful place. It always amazes me how much a book can have you feeling the sea breeze on your face, the smell of cut flowers tickling your nose or the sun warming your shoulders.

I adored most of the characters although a few did annoy me a little including Daisy’s parents who were too judgemental for my liking. The romance element was built slowly and was touching to watch.

Overall, Best Summer Ever is a feel-good story that will have you smiling throughout and wishing that you were in Wynmouth. It will resonate with many readers and was completely uplifting and charming.
