But here’s the thing, Mark—no, the government shouldn’t focus on companies. The government needs to stay out of it. Full stop. Mark has built and expanded an empire with his social media platform, and now, it seems like he’s finally growing a spine, especially with Biden out and Trump back in the picture. It’s as if Mark let out a massive sigh of relief, as though he and his META were held hostage by the Biden administration.
And wouldn’t you know it, as soon as Mark starts to loosen his proverbial collar, now Brazil pops up demanding Zuckerberg answer some questions about removing META’s fact-checkers? You can probably feel my eyes roll from where you are.
Brazil on Friday gave social media giant Meta 72 hours to explain what its fact-checking policy will be for the country, and how it plans to protect fundamental rights on its platform.
“Due to the lack of transparency of this company, we will file an extrajudicial notice and the company will have 72 hours to inform the Brazilian government of its actual policy for Brazil,” Attorney General Jorge Messias told journalists. – Barrons
It seems that Brazil is trying to extort money from META in the same way it targeted Elon Musk’s X. The pattern is eerily familiar: governments press major tech companies with threats of fines and regulations while trying to extract financial concessions. These platforms are treated as easy targets for monetary gain, with little concern for the long-term effects of innovation and free speech.
I still don’t fully trust Mark Zuckerberg easing up on the fact-checkers or his move to invite Dana White to join META’s board. But it’s hard to ignore how bizarre it is that he’s now coming out full force with what many are calling “the truth.”
It speaks volumes about what’s been going on behind the scenes. Honestly, it’s almost unbelievable, isn’t it?
