This was a successful readathon for me! The fact that it was 9 days and there was a Storygraph challenge for it really helped me to keep on track. I do like revisiting Orilium for these readathons, I’ve been building on it through the years and the amount of information G has made available is amazing.
TBR post here with the information. Anyone else take part in this readathon?
Owlcat Craft Cafe
A collection of Agatha Christie’s short stories that are set in winter. I had read a couple of them before but some of them were new and I always have fun with Christie’s writing. A nice audiobook to listen to.
Shank and Shawl Legitimate Retailer
This was a book I bought for a friend for Christmas and I just had to read it before I gave it to her since I had heard so much about it. The story itself was okay, I thought it could have done with building the tension a lot more, I really liked that part of the book, but the format with the illustrations and the layout of the book was done brilliantly.
Wallice’s Wonderful Winter Wanimals
This was an impulse pick up from the library, mostly because it was released 50 years before 2024 and that worked for the reading challenge I was doing (and then proceeded to only start the book after the challenge finished). It’s the story of a masquerade New Year’s Ball. It took me a few pages to get into it but when I did, I found myself really enjoying the whole thing.
Smith & Friends & Sons Arcane Goods & Such
This was another impulse pick up from the library about Sarah doing a bookshop swap with a French friend of hers. I picked this up for the Paris setting but actually the setting took a back seat to everything else. I found this a little more depressing than was intended, Sarah is just struggling with running this popular bookshop for nearly the entirety of the book and it just makes me more sad than anything else. But I am interested in this series so I’ll check out the next book.
The Old Tails Bookstore
I was very determined to get to this ARC before the end of the year and I was so pleased when I did. I’ve enjoyed this author’s writing in the past and this was just as enjoyable for me as previous books. More thriller than mystery, but it made good use of the isolated setting and I was genuinely wondering whether the main character would survive or not.
