Before you can plan a trip, you have to choose it. To help you choose the best trip for you and increase your likelihood of successfully completing your objective, it’s helpful to have a strategic approach to trip planning.
On December 3, Andrew and I hosted a livestream where we shared a framework and tools for identifying and assessing your options.
In this livestream, we went deep on step one of our trip planning process, discussing topics such as:
- Why it’s worthwhile to have a process for choosing your trip
- Considerations for selecting your location, including scenery, wildlife, climate, requisite skillset, desired social experience, and convenience
- Factors that influence your trip dates, such as personal time constraints, ideal weather window, and permits
- Defining your preferences and goals, including experience level, physical fitness, time commitment, and budget
- Hiking solo versus partnered, and the type of expectations to communicate with potential hiking partners
- Walking through a real-world example that includes trip planning tools, websites, and other resources
