Coors Banquet goes retro with The Legacy Collection limited-edition cans

It’s been a while since I’ve had an update about packaging that didn’t involve Jäger or Bud Light. I’m an admitted sucker for design, though, so here we are. This time, the Coors Banquet Beer Legacy Collection takes center stage.

Coors Banquet is just over 150 years old, which might not seem all that interesting until you think about what else was happening in 1973.

  • Jesse James pulled off the first train robbery in the US
  • Barbed wire was invented
  • The first Battle of the Stronghold is fought in the Indian Wars
  • Comstock Law was enacted, prohibiting smut, condoms, and sex toys from being sent by mail

It’s impressive that people have been drinking the same beer throughout so many monumental events. Obviously, it’s not only Coors that’s been there for the long haul. Budweiser came along just three years later, but Coors is celebrating with new cans.

The Legacy Collection from Coors Banquet features three limited-edition cans and accompanying packaging that pays homage to its history by putting a modern twist on retro designs from the 1880s, 1940s, and 1990s.

As you can imagine, given the whole “legacy” thing, the beer inside is unchanged. So, if one of the people who helped on-premise sales of Coors Banquet jump 22% last year, this new campaign is a good excuse to go pick some up.

The new Legacy Collection cans will slowly roll out through June 30, and the accompanying merch collaboration with The Brixton collab hits digital shelves on April 7. I might have to pull the trigger on this cowboy hat even before then.
