I recently received an unexpected text from a number with an Australian area code. Upon opening my phone, I was blown away—a wild Conspicillatus x Personifer hybrid. While this is not the first time this particular hybrid has shown up in the trade, it is exceedingly rare.
Luckily, unlike many other uber-rare fish in the trade, this specimen will live in a display at Anything QT in Brisbane, Australia. The owner, Thomas Cheer, sent me the following information about this amazing fish and his business.
“My Name is Thomas Cheer. I m currently employed as a Captain on the Boeing 737 at Virgin Australia. Anything QT from Brisbane Australia, was established in 2019 and provided me with a source of income over Covid when we were all grounded. It was borne out of the frustrations of continuously purchasing sick and diseased fish resulting in deaths and many fallow Periods. This drove us to quarantining and perfecting the art of the Tank Transfer Method which we continue to practice today. We have quarantined over 10,000 fish and with a loss rate of approx 2-3% – most of the time it’s usually due to bullying or starvation.
During and post quarantine, all our fish are kept in holding tanks that run at Natural Sea water parameters without any copper or Formalin. We are the only online shop in Australia that offers a 72hr stay alive policy for our live stock. With ‘Rare’ and ‘uncommon’ species, we offer a 5-6 weeks holding period, prior to shipping, in lieu of 72hr stay alive guarantee.

We also were the first in Australia to offer a pair ABEI angels for sale. These are still available and been in our care for over 10months. Our stock is usually beaming with beautiful fish such as the Griffis, Tiger Kingi Angel, Cocopeel and the joculator (just to name a few). We are confident to quarantine and hold premium & rare fish because of the personalized and high degree of care we provide.
Being a premium fish online store, we were offered a wild caught Hybrid Conspicuous x Personifer from our collector. He was bought for an undisclosed amount and at the moment isn’t for sale. He was caught off the Reefs in the Sunshine Coast at a depth of 18 meters and was schooling with a group of personifers. The collector has collected rare fish in the past but this is at the top of his list.
The current plan at the moment is to add him to our display tank so everyone who pops in to purchase fish can enjoy the beauty of this gem.”
Below is some information for the shop as well as an amazing video of his display (first link).
