Islamabad, December 26, 2024: The CDA is on a path to achieving sustainable urban development through draft plans for partnership with the ADB. This partnership aims to address emergent urban issues in Islamabad and establish environmentally sustainable infrastructure development.

During one of its recent meetings, CDA senior officials presented the ADB team with general urban development conceptual frameworks. The primary focus is managing efficient green solutions, improved public transport, and advanced waste management.
They align with Islamabad’s vision of transforming into an environmentally green city of the future. Potential areas of partnership are smart city development technology, renewable energy integration – solar power, and affordable housing to accommodate the city’s growing population.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman CDA remarked, “Technical assistance by ADB and financial support will facilitate Islamabad to transform itself into a model sustainable city for South Asia in the soonest possible time.” If brought to a pass, this collaboration could act as a model for other cities in Pakistan to emulate regarding sustainability.

Islamabad’s geographical and environmental characteristics also qualify it for priority consideration in implementing the pilot projects to create green infrastructure and low-carbon cities. The partnership is, therefore, evidence of the need to develop international cooperation to deal with the various issues affecting cities.
CDA’s vision is to build a city that grows with its people and meets its goal with the help of ADB to enhance the quality of life of people within the city and protect the environment for future generations.
