MBS Debuts “Witch Watch” Trailer With YOASOBI’s “Watch Me!” Theme Song – Animation Scoop

Last Sunday, on February 16, 2025, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Inc. (MBS) debuted a brand new trailer for Witch Watch, the highly anticipated anime adaptation of the hit Weekly Shonen Jump manga. The latest trailer treats fans to an early listen of the anime’s original theme song, “Watch Me!,” written exclusively for the series by the J-pop duo YOASOBI. In addition, MBS has released new poster art to accompany the recently unveiled opening theme.

YOASOBI is easily considered one of the most active and successful J-pop groups in the industry as of today. The Japanese artists have managed to produce several diamond-certified works, such as “Yoru ni Kakeru” and the opening theme songs for Beastars and Oshi no Ko. Their release of “Idol” topped the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for 21 consecutive weeks, setting a record for the longest-running hit single and making them the first Japanese act to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.

In regards to their recent song for Witch Watch, YOASOBI said: “We are YOASOBI. We are honored to provide the opening theme song, ‘Watch me!’ for this show. I, Ayase, love WITCH WATCH, of course, but have been a fan of Kenta Shinohara-Sensei’s works since SKET DANCE, so I was very honored to be a part of this project. The song ‘Watch me!” that I wrote for this series is focused on the pure romantic feelings that the main character Nico has for her childhood friend, Morihito. I love Nico-chan as a character, and how she falls in love with Morihito, and I think the song expresses Nico’s cuteness.”

Witch Watch is based on the popular manga by Kenta Shinohara, creator of SKET DANCE, and has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, achieving major success with over 3 million copies sold. The upcoming series has been animated by Bibury Animation Studios, best known for The Quintessential Quintuplets. Hiroshi Ikehata, noted for his work on FLCL Progressive, serves as the anime’s director. Haruko Iizuka, who previously worked on Horimiya, has provided character design for the anime. The series will also feature music from Yukari Hashimoto, recognized for A Sign of Affection.

In January 2025, in partnership with ADN, Aniplus, GKIDS, and Tropics, MBS announced a global theatrical release titled WITCH WATCH: WATCH PARTY, showcasing the first three episodes and special interviews. The event will premiere in North American theaters on March 16, followed by releases in Asia and the Tropics on March 18th, and Korea on March 21st. More upcoming dates and their details will be released for specific regions from the partnership’s collaborators.
