5G modem offers 12Gbit/s 5G NRDC FR1+FR2

The 5G modem, called M90, supports 12Gbit/s downlink and Release 17 2T-2T uplink Tx switching.

“This new modem supports sub-6GHz FR1 with up to 6CC carrier aggregation and mmWave FR2 with up to 10CC carrier aggregation,” according to the company, “and it offers 5G SIM dual-active support with dual data capabilities.”

Inside M90 is something the company is dubbing MMAI (MediaTek modem AI) – AI models intended to enhance power efficiency and device performance.

“These models include features such as identifying data traffic patterns to optimise power consumption and latency, as well as detecting device orientation and usage scenarios to maximise connectivity experience,” it said.

The AI will also aggregate antenna impedance and signal data, which “enables operating environment identification with 99.5% accuracy and boosts data throughput by up to 30%”, said MediaTek.

NTN (satellite) connectivity on the modem includes 3GPP IoT-NTN low data rate and NR-NTN high data.

The company said that near-10Gbit/s simultaneous 5G NRDC FR1+FR2 connectivity has been demonstrated on a live network using the IC.

Samples are expected in the second half of this year.
