January 20, 2025. Trump’s inauguration. We decided to test freedom of speech on X .
Charlie Hebdo did it last week by publishing caricatures of Musk. Of course, the little note appears on the posts: “Limited visibility.”
Freedom of speech is great, but it depends on who you’re talking about, right?
How long will our photos of FEMEN activists with slogans against Musk last on X?
Following Meta’s announcements and Musk’s renewed effort to turn X into a masculinist and conspiracist platform, the FEMEN movement announces that it will continue to occupy these spaces while also opening accounts on more respectful platforms (Mastodon, Thread, and Bluesky).
Because we are feminist activists and we occupy or appear in spaces where we are not invited, we will continue to occupy these platforms. Today, on Trump’s inauguration day, we are testing freedom of speech on X with slogans against Musk.
We understand the feeling of lack of safe space, and support everyone who experiences online harassment, but we will never give up a single centimeter, even a virtual one, to hate and intolerance.
We consider it unacceptable that women or the #LGBTQIA+ community can be excluded (or feel they must exclude themselves for safety) from the 2.0 space.
Cyber harassment is a universal scourge. We are fighting against it.
We call on women and the queer community to resist by mobilizing, so that the web becomes a zone of solidarity and a platform for progressive ideas, not a lawless zone.
ELON’S CENSORSHIP ON X
GOES FASTER THAN SPACE X!
X, META: I WILL NOT DISAPPEAR
