While a lot of interest in Sega arcade news as of late has been focused on the upcoming Western release of Maimai DX and House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn’s new theater cabinet design, those aren’t the only titles that Sega Amusements have in their pipeline. They have recently released an update on their latest collaborative effort with 3MindWave, the two-player motion-based virtual reality shooting game Alpha Ops VR Strike. For those who may be unaware or missed our previous coverage, this officially debuted at IAAPA 2024 and was last seen at EAG 2025 in January. Let’s take a look at what’s new with it:
Alpha Ops VR Strike – Updates
First off, one thing that was mentioned by both the Sega Amusements and 3MindWave teams at IAAPA was that the cabinet seen there (and at EAG) was not quite final yet. Changes to the marquee and cabinet lighting were mentioned as likely differences for the release version… and now, we have a look at how those appear in practice, thanks to this updated cabinet render that has been revealed:
The main difference on the lighting appears to be that blobs within the camouflage will be backlit, as opposed to the edge lines that it had before. The marquee also looks like it was likely downsized (or weighted) a little from what it was previously; as noted on AH before, there were complaints from setup crew that it was on the heavy side during IAAPA preparations. If there are more changes, they are probably “under-the-hood” and not visible here (e.g. the addition of the final level, which hasn’t been seen yet, other minor hardware adjustments).
The other update on Alpha Ops VR Strike to mention is that pre-orders for it are confirmed to be open now. The game is still expected to be releasing to the industry around April, or May at the latest, but if you want to have this one upfront you can get in at the ground floor on it already with Sega Amusements. The pricing is fairly competitive with other VR arcade machines at around $39,995, but it sounds like that shouldn’t be a problem for any operators who were able to grab SAI/3MW’s previous virtual reality hit VR Agent, which has earnt well for those with it.
The game should be on the Sega Amusements booth at Amusement Expo International in under a month’s time too, where there can be a good chance to get more footage of both the full game itself and the updated cabinet for the first time. Until then, if you’re interested in seeing how this one plays check out the above video of its 70% build from IAAPA 2024 last November; note that the minor graphical glitches briefly seen in it were all apparently fixed for the software build that appeared at EAG last month.
Should any more information or media come through on this release in the meantime, we’ll be sure to provide it. Would you like to see Alpha Ops VR Strike appear at a location near you soon?
