Door Knock, one of Sydney’s original hidden bars, has undergone a makeover, emerging with a fresh look and an elevated dining and drinks menu.
Located on Pitt Street, behind a hidden door, Door Knock brings new architectural features like French vintage mirrors, marble tables, and dim lighting replacing the former “Nordic-inspired” decor, creating an intimate speakeasy experience.
Previously co-owned by Natalie Ng, and acquired in 2024 by John Grace, Door Knock is staying true to its roots, while refreshing the venue into a food and drinks destination.
“We’ve created an affordable, flavour-driven menu that suits both a casual drink and a full dining experience.
“Whether you’re here for cocktails or a long dinner, there’s something for everyone,” said Grace.
Core elements of Door Knocks origins remain, with the signature pineapple shaped door knocker for signal upon entrance, and its original wooden railway sleeper bar continues to centre the space. Signature cocktails, including the Sunny Leone, a tropical tequila mix with passionfruit, sparkling wine, and absinthe spray, also remain on the menu.
“Door Knock has always been a favourite, and we wanted to honour its history while bringing it into a new era,” said Grace.
Executive chef Joe Slakey (formerly of Flying Fajita Sistas), has introduced a Mediterranean and North African-influenced share menu, designed to deliver bold flavours at reasonable prices.
Patrons can start with house-made stracciatella topped with grape confit, rosemary, and sea salt lavosh, or try for the fried cauliflower with zaatar and spiced labne. For more substantial plates guests can expect a 250g flank steak with Paris butter and red wine jus, and slow-cooked Moroccan lamb with chickpeas and saffron rice.
The wine list has also had a refresh with a curated selection of French, Italian, and Australian options, including premium champagnes like Billecart-Salmon.
Located in the basement of 70 Pitt St, Door Knock is open from 4pm until midnight Monday to Thursday, and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
