A Quest Completed, A New One Begins

Have you ever reached the end of something monumental—only to wonder, What’s next? That’s exactly where I find myself after finishing The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau. The book ignited something deep inside me, making me reflect on the nature of quests, the purpose they bring, and the inevitable moment when one quest ends, and another must begin.

Right now, I’m in that transitional phase, standing at the crossroads of curiosity and ambition. I haven’t found my next grand adventure yet (previous adventure to be published shortly), but instead of waiting for inspiration to strike, I’m embarking on a mini-quest: reading 100 nonfiction books in 2025.

And I want you to join me.

From my tiny Caribbean island of Utila, where the sea breeze carries endless possibilities, I’m diving headfirst into a year (10 months actually) of deep learning, self-discovery, and growth.

Why Do We Need Quests in Life?

Chris Guillebeau’s book isn’t just about adventure—it’s about purpose. He argues that a quest, no matter how big or small, gives life direction. A compelling pursuit infuses our days with meaning, keeps us engaged, and challenges us to push beyond our comfort zones.

A quest doesn’t have to be about traveling to every country (like Guillebeau did) or climbing Everest. It could be personal, intellectual, or even spiritual. It just has to be something that excites and challenges you.

That’s why I’ve chosen my 100-book challenge. It’s ambitious, slightly overwhelming, but incredibly rewarding. Each book is a stepping stone to knowledge, insight, and transformation.

Why 100 Nonfiction Books?

You might be wondering, Why nonfiction? While fiction offers beautiful escapism, nonfiction is about equipping ourselves with wisdom, skills, and new perspectives. Here’s why this challenge excites me:

  • Lifelong Learning: Every book is a doorway to new ideas.
  • Self-Improvement: Whether it’s productivity, psychology, or philosophy, I’ll be absorbing actionable insights.
  • Discipline & Focus: Reading 100 books in a year requires dedication, time management, and perseverance.
  • Inspiration for the Next Big Quest: Through these books, I hope to discover my next life-defining adventure.

The Rules of My 100-Book Challenge

To make this quest structured and achievable, I’ve set a few guidelines:

Only Nonfiction: Biographies, personal development, business, history, philosophy, psychology, science, and more.
A Book Every 3 Days: I’ll need to stay consistent, making reading a daily habit. – Especially as I am starting this on March 1, 2025.
Summarize & Apply Learnings: Reading is only valuable if I put insights into action.
Document the Journey: I’ll be sharing updates, key takeaways, and reflections along the way.

Utila: The Perfect Setting for Reflection & Growth

Nestled in the Caribbean, Utila is my home—a tiny island known for its diving, laid-back lifestyle, and breathtaking sunsets. It’s the perfect place for deep introspection and personal transformation.

With the sound of waves in the background and a hammock as my reading nook, I’ll be flipping through pages while sipping coconut water. It’s a simple but powerful way to learn, grow, and eventually, find my next big quest.

Final Thoughts: Every Quest Begins with a Single Step

The beauty of quests is that they evolve. Sometimes, they start as a small idea—like a reading challenge—and lead to something extraordinary.

Maybe, through these 100 books, I’ll find my next grand adventure. Or maybe, the adventure is already happening.

Either way, I’m ready to turn the page.

Are you?
