Bushmills is an Irish Whiskey distillery located in Northern Ireland. The distillery was founded in 1784 and is currently owned by Proximo Spirits. This bottle is part of the new Private Reserve series and a limited release. The whiskey was distilled and aged in accordance with normal Bushmills practices before being aged secondarily in Reposado & Anejo Tequila, Tequila Jalisco American Barrel American Oak. It was released as part of the second installment of Bushmills Private Reserve Limited Release series.
Agave cactus and the sweet anejo tequila smell. This is rich but with the complexity of a tequila. A light layer of wood smoke and pear skin soaked in honey.
Dry and cloying to the teeth. Obvious tequila notes blended with the grain sweetness. Honey dew melon wrapped in oak and soft agave nectar. Dried strawberries and cigar tobacco leaves.
Touch of smoke before tingling the upper jaw and holding. Watery mouthfeel overall but an even profile which holds nicely for good period. Whisps of the palates sugar and cigar tobacco flex on and off the tongue.
This has a lovely sweetness that blends the sweet and savory. The tequila drinkers whiskey. The tequila cask does a great job pairing with the whiskey and mingles excellently. The whiskey lends itself beautifully to the complexity of the tequila and makes for a fun and interesting dram. While it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, it will be a nice bottle to share for anyone looking for something different without being overly adventurous.
