Picklebacks are one thing. A quick shot of pickle juice to chase your whiskey and impress your friends makes sense. But a pickle-flavored hard seltzer – this has to be a joke, right?
Let me be as clear as Crystal Pepsi right now … Shiner’s pickle-flavored hard seltzer is my absolute favorite seltzer right now. We’re not talking about a so-bad-it’s-good situation, either. It’s genuinely and unexpectedly wonderful.
I can best explain the taste of the lengthily named Juicy Dill Pickle Straight Shooter as combining the extra pickle juice in your favorite jar with water then running it through a Drinkmate to add carbonation. It’s bright, fresh, and unique. And as seltzer market sales slow, unique options like this will finally get a chance to shine.
Unfortunately, the pickle-flavored hard seltzer was only around for a limited time around National Pickle Day, and I’ve let you down by letting that time pass. If you need to blame someone, blame Carter Bennett. He got sick at just the wrong time, so the Boozist holiday cheer fell behind. If you happen to see it on the shelf, don’t walk by it.
If you need a new seltzer to try right this minute, don’t sleep on Shiner’s cocktail-inspired lineup.
