This March, the World’s Smallest Pub ever is coming to Manchester. ‘The Tiny Tankard’ is a 21 square foot pub exclusively serving ‘Baby Lagers.’
Aptly named, this 6.5ft x 3.25ft watering hole is a third of the size of the current world record holder. A charming take on the classic British pub, visitors to ‘The Tiny Tankard’ will be able to enjoy their Baby Lager in a tiny stein glass in a fully immersive environment.
The only catch? The pub will only be standing for two days, at Manchester’s Northern Restaurant and Bar show from 11th to 12th March.
The miniature pub might be small, but it will be jam-packed with tongue-in-cheek nods to British pub culture.
From photos of pop-culture pub icons (think Mo from the Simpsons meets Bette Lynch) to miniature blackboards and dart boards, ‘The Tiny Tankard’ will play tribute to the beloved British pub will all the hallmarks of a proper local.
A pint-sized pitstop for bartenders, industry insiders and media, punters will even be gifted a pocket-sized souvenir to commemorate their visit in the form of a polaroid.
The Tiny Tankard was born from a play on Licor 43’s Baby Lager serve making waves in the UK. Licor 43 is topped with cream liqueur, perfectly resembling a tiny pint of beer.
Also known as a Baby Beer or a Mini Beer, Licor 43’s notes of vanilla and citrus make it a delicious, layered shot that has been a driver of growth for the brand in the UK. Licor 43 now available in over 3500 venues, from nationals such as Roxy Ballroom, Stonegate venues and Revolution to hundreds of trend-setting independents, many of which are based in Manchester.
A recent survey of 2,000 UK adults revealed a growing preference for mini cocktails with 33% of respondents preferring cocktail shots over regular shots. Nearly half of drinkers (49%) choose mini drinks for their superior taste and 15% even drink them for social media posts – a figure that jumps to 28% among 35-44-year-olds.
Data from Licor 43 customers has shown the Baby Lager can increase shooter sales by 34% alongside the Baby Stout.
The ‘Tiny Tankard’ may just be a corner of UK distributor Paragon Brands’ stand, but outside of the novelty, punters will have the chance to get involved in this trend taking the UK on-trade scene by storm.
The Baby Lagers will be served by ‘landlords’ for the two days, Ollie Drew and Claire Maguire, the brand’s Brand Ambassador and Brand Manager, where punters can ask any questions about this rising trend and how the Spanish brand is achieving success in the UK.
Chris Jones, Managing Director of Paragon Brands, said: “We’re thrilled to unveil the world’s smallest pub, The Tiny Tankard, at this year’s Northern Restaurant & Bar Show in Manchester.
It might be a small space, but it’s making a big statement – miniature drinks are on the rise, and Licor 43 is at the heart of this revolution. Most forward-thinking venues are getting on board, and consumers are starting to demand more and more aesthetic and great-tasting shots.
Come along to the Tiny Tankard and see what all the fuss is about. And who wouldn’t love a cheeky drink at what will feel like their local?”
While The Tiny Tankard will be calling last orders when Manchester Central closes, the party continues at the Licor 43 Northern Restaurant and Bar afterparty at Peaky Blinders in Manchester.
Guests will enjoy free Baby Lagers and Carajillos (Licor 43 and cold brew coffee) while grooving to the beats of a live DJ on Tuesday 11th March, a well-deserved way to wind down after the bustling trade expo. All hospitality staff will receive 20% off drinks throughout the event.
