BrewPub Starboard : The Bottom Line
BrewPub Starboard is a cosy little place to pick up some local craft beers. Every time I’ve been to the bar, I’ve found it to be best enjoyed outside on the terrace. That’s even truer if you have a dog as they are also pet friendly. The beers are well priced and there’s a decent variety on tap, so there is something for everyone. If there’s one down point, I’d have to say the quality of the beers does vary. However, that’s the fault of the breweries, and not the bar. Finally, there is some free wifi, and there is no table charge either.

BrewPub Starboard : Background
BrewPub Starboard was originally owned by Rokko Beer. From 2012, the bar was known as Rokko Beer Diner, and served only Rokko Beer. Yet, in June 2014, BrewPub Starboard took over the bar, while Starboard Brewing then decided to move their brewpub, which also had a brewery, from Motomachi to their new store in Sannomiya. In 2015, Starboard Brewing reapplied for a brewing license to use on these premises,
The bar is located in the middle of Kobe, with it being Motomachi station and Kobe-Sannomiya station. Both stations are within a 5 minute walk from it.
BrewPub Starboard : Atmosphere & Interior
As you walk along the promenade, you’re greeted by a large terrace area. I wholely recommned you get seats out here when the weather is nice. That’s not to say that sitting inside is an unpleasant experience, but you can bring your dog along to the bar. Moreover, there is a nice breeze that flows through. Perfect for warm summer days. There’s space for around 30 people inside, with some counter seats at the bar, and a larger table area at the back of the store. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either. However, there is a request from the bar that all customers buy at least one drink.

BrewPub Starboard : Beer & Tap Information
There are usually 15 taps of beer on at the bar, with a strong leaning towards local Kobe Beer. This includes Rokko Beer, Open Air Brewing, and of course Starboard Brewing. On top of this, there are occasionally imported beers, though these tend to be Belgian beers. The beers come in three sizes. Small (200 ml) from ¥500, medium (350 ml) from ¥800, and large (500ml) from ¥1,300. All the prices include tax though there is no option for a beer flight. However, there is an all you can drink plan, alongside the option for takeaway beers.
BrewPub Starboard : Food & Menu Information
The menu at the bar focuses on deep dish style pizza – a surprise to see outside of Tokyo. Besides that, you can also find fried foods such as chips and chicken on the menu. The menus do have some English on them, just enough to order, but it would help being able to read Japanese. Vegetarians are out of luck really as most, if not all, of the options on the menu revolve around meat.
