Strong winds today have helped to fuel numerous wildfires across the state. These fires primarily have been the result of downed powerlines as winds have resulted in some falling lines today, however sporadic lighting strikes have also been a cause in some western AL counties such as Marion per the Marion county EMA. The above map shows all of the active wildfire (red), contained fires (yellow), and controlled burn (blue) across the state. Outdoor burning is still strongly discouraged while conditions continue to favor the development of wildfires.
Luckily we have a soaking rain tonight which will certainly help in the firefighting efforts.
