The time has come to plan and submit sessions for the 2025 American Anthropology Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana! The meeting will take place from November 19-23, 2025, and this year’s theme is Ghosts.
Our AAA Program Committee and Executive Board are excited to put together a great program for our members, but we need your help. Please begin organizing your oral presentation sessions, roundtables, conversation sessions, interviews, and podcasts! Here is a description of submission types. The submissions portal opens on Wednesday, March 5th. Submitters will have until Wednesday, April 16th to finalize and submit their proposals.
Like last year (but unlike in years past), AAA will only accept proposals for fully formed sessions, panels, and roundtables, not individual papers. We encourage you to take advantage of the AAA Communities and the SAFN listserv to organize a session or find a session for your individual contributions. To help facilitate you in putting together a session, SAFN is organizing a Google Doc where you can submit panel ideas and paper topics and network with fellow presenters. Feel free to add your individual paper topic/abstract under any panel in the Google Doc that looks like it might be a good fit. Please don’t hesitate to email us (Program Committee Chairs) if you have any questions or would like help brainstorming panel topics or connecting with other interested members! Please note that once you have formed a panel, you will need to submit it yourself using the AAA portal.
Invited and Co-Sponsored Sessions: SAFN is able to sponsor or co-sponsor a small number of sessions which will be highlighted in the conference program. We have frequently co-sponsored sessions with related sections of the AAA such as Culture and Agriculture. We would welcome any suggestions you have for co-sponsorships, as these tend to increase the audience size and diversity of interests.
As a reminder, you will need to be a member of AAA and register for the meeting to present at the Annual Meeting. Also, individuals can only have one major (Presenter) role plus one secondary (Discussant) role per meeting. There are no limits on minor roles (Organizer/Chair). Submission details can be found on the AAA meeting website’s Submission FAQs— but please feel free to reach out to us if you have questions.
