The neighbors must have gasped.
This street dog’s maggot wound was so horrible he had lost the will to survive it. Gaping and complex, the wound covered the whole of his back neck. And in unbearable pain, he was completely limp, and allowed strangers to simply lift him into their trunk where they could confine him safely waiting for our rescue team. He seemed ready to die. But we weren’t ready for that!
We scooped him up and began our protocol for maggot removal, IV support, wound dressing (which would be repeated daily for weeks) and the gentlest love. Pedro was wary at first, but by the third day in Animal Aid, he was eating well and Pedro’s incredible smile was being nurtured and coaxed.
