A groundbreaking picture book which explains Autism Spectrum Disorder in a simple, gentle and positive way to very young children.

Meet Isaac. He’s a superhero! He might look like everyone else, but he has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Inside this book he’ll tell you all about what it’s like to have his Autism superpowers, like his superhero brain that remembers lots of facts. Or his super-vision which helps him spot interesting things no one else does. This is an essential book for anyone wishing to understand more about Autism.

Isaac and His Amazing Autism Superpowers! is a children’s picture book that tells the story of a young boy called Isaac, who is autistic. Although the book does not give his age, he appears to be around six or seven years old.

The book is told from Isaac’s POV as he provides a look into his experiences of living with autism, explaining how his brain functions, and the various ways in which others accommodate his needs. The writing is clear, easy to comprehend, and offers valuable understanding in an empathetic manner.

As the mother of an autistic adult, I have always encouraged my son to embrace his differences and to use his strengths, such as his impressive memory and the knowledge his has of his favourite subjects. In much the same way, Isaac and His Amazing Autism Superpowers! highlights the positive aspects of being autistic, showing both the challenges Isaac faces and the ways he copes.

It is important to note that autism is not a one-size-fits-all condition, and there are aspects of Isaac’s experience that may not align with every autistic child’s life. For instance, my son has never experienced excessive energy as Isaac does, which serves as a reminder that all autistic people are unique.

Overall, any book that sheds a positive light on autism and aids children in understanding the condition better is invaluable.
