Hawaii Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito Retired Effective January 31, 2025


On February 3, the Hawaii Insurance Division issued a press release stating that Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito has retired as of January 31. Ito served in the division for 31 years in various capacities, including as commissioner for 10 years. He also served under four Hawaii governors and was most recently appointed by current Governor Josh Green (D) on December 16, 2022. Effective February 1, Jerry Bump was named acting insurance commissioner. Bump has served as the division’s chief deputy insurance commissioner since 2023. He began his tenure with the division in 2008 as an insurance program specialist. Prior to joining the division, he worked for 13 years as an auditor at Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company.
