Close to Home by Cara Hunter #policeprocedural #crime #thriller #bookreview

I am delighted to share my review today for Close to Home by Cara Hunter. I recently read the follow-up to this first book in the series and decided I wanted to find out what happened.

HOW CAN A CHILD GO MISSING WITHOUT A TRACE?

Last night, eight-year-old Daisy Mason disappeared from a family party. No one in the quiet suburban street saw anything – or at least that’s what they’re saying.

DI Adam Fawley is trying to keep an open mind. But he knows the nine times out of ten, it’s someone the victim knew.

That means someone is lying…
And that Daisy’s time is running out.

MY REVIEW

I did wonder how well I would get on with this book as I read the authors latest book first, Book 7 is a follow on from Close to Home. It is an amazing story and it was after I had read it that I decided to go back to the beginning. I have read several books in between just so it wasn’t quite as fresh in my mind.

Daisy Mason vanishes and it takes a while before anyone realises she is missing. Her mother had been busy organising a party, her father running late due to work and her brother hadn’t seen her since leaving g school. Daisy is 8 and her brother Leo a supporters older. DI Adam Varley is the lead on this case along with the rest of the team, they start building a picture of the Mason household, their lives and how the family is seen by others. Families disagree at times, children bicker and there are the usual mundane irregularities of life. But when the family are interviewed there are some things that do t add up, some inconsistencies that start to unravel the stories.

This is a fabulous story and while I was aware of the later episode in this family drama, it did not take anything away from the story. In fact, I felt that reading the books out of order helped cement some things. The back and forth of the questioning gradually show the cracks and class within the family and this adds to the mystery and suspense that gradually builds up. There is also the personal story of Varley and his son.

This is a tense story and it is a fabulous start to a series. It is a police procedural that delves into the heart of a family and also a community. It is told with a mixed media style, so you come across newspaper articles and social media posts, these add public opinion which as we all know can simply provoke anger and suspicion.

If you are looking for a police procedural series to start then this one is wonderfully addictive. It’s full of intrigue, suspicion, drama and secrets. Brilliant characters and storyline and one I would definitely recommend.

Many thanks for reading my post, a like or share would be mazing 🙂 xx
