The Orange Rag Newsletter is Here!

Hi and welcome to the March Orange Rag, which this month is out early to avoid a clash with Legalweek in New York at the end of the month.

It has already been a big month for events, and I have enjoyed speaking at conferences such as Actionstep’s first UK user conference and attending the ofÏcial launch of Bird & Bird and Legora’s partnership. Then, of course, we had the British Legal Technology Forum (BLTF), where Legal IT Insider again had a media booth. One of those BLTF interviews was with Joe Cohen, director of innovation at UK top 50 law firm Charles Russell Speechlys, which is getting ready to launch its first SaaS product and has built its Advanced Client Solutions team to around 23 people in the space of a year. You can read more about that and watch the video in our Top Stories section.

There is a dedicated BLTF section for our other content, which includes a video interview with document automation expert Catherine Bamford, founder of Bam Legal, who quizzes NetDocuments’ product head Jill Schornack as to what agentic AI really means – that one isn’t to be missed if you haven’t seen it yet.

Given the sheer volume of legaltech deals over the last few months, I thought it would be worth sharing some stats from a LawtechUK report out in March, which shows that lawtech acquisitions have gone through the roof. Take a look at our top stories for a better explanation of the data.

One of the biggest wow factor deals this month was Canadian-founded SaaS legal practice management vendor Clio’s acquisition of UK cloud case management provider ShareDo, in a move that enables it to cater for the needs of all segments of the legal market, from solo to large enterprise customers. The acquisition will also accelerate Clio and ShareDo’s global expansion. Take a look at our Acquisitions and Investment section for more details on that.

I look forward to seeing some of you in New York soon.
