Brew Review – Outta This Coast by Fort Myers Brewing and Tampa Bay Brewing Co.

Collaborations, yay!

While at Bonita Brew Fest on Feb. 15th (Florida Craft Beer Day, no less), pretty much all of the Collier and Lee county breweries were set up next to each other. There was a party on the outside of the tents, to be sure, but the party inside the tents was even better.

I know for a fact several collaborations were suggested or hinted at during the event as well. Not that they did, but I know one of the breweries there, Ft. Myers Brewing, is no stranger to collabs.

Actually, they even had one of those collaborations in the VIP area: Outta This Coast! (Pilsner, 5.5% ABV) that FMB did with their friends at Tampa Bay Brewing Co.

This particular pilsner is meant to be their version of a West Coast-style, using Simcoe, Idaho 7, and Riwaka to great effect to bring the fruity dankness to the beer.

It has a crystal clear complexion with a nice fruity aroma that belies bits of papaya and mango. The flavor is very clean and crisp, just a touch of fruity hoppiness and a lot of tropical mango, passionfruit, papaya, and apple flavors.

It’s a great beer and this was always a welcome combination of breweries. I would ask if there are more Gulf coast collaborations coming soon, but from what I’ve seen and heard, that should be a given.

As long as they’re all like this, that works for me.

Drink Florida Craft,

Dave
