United Airlines Dreamliner
United Airlines flyers will have more choices out of the San Francisco International Airport hub, including Europe and Asia.
United Airlines is planning to increase their capacity out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO), along with adding more destinations from the hub around the world.
The airline announced they would increase flying by 20% in 2025, with new destinations planned in Asia and Australia.
New Destinations Include Adelaide, Ho Chi Minh City, and Manila
United’s plan calls for 300 daily flights at SFO during Summer 2025, which they say is the most compared to before the pandemic. In addition to adding capacity out of the airport, the carrier is launching new routes across the world.
To Central America, United will launch flights from San Francisco to both San Jose, Costa Rica and Panama City, Panama. Travelers headed for Europe will get additional capacity on seasonal flights to Barcelona, complimenting new service to Rome and expanded service to London Heathrow Airport (LHR).
By the winter, Asia and Australia will be on the expansion list. United anticipates they will add new routes by the end of the year to both Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, by way of Hong Kong. A second year-round flight will be added between the Bay Area and Manila, while seasonal service will be added to Adelaide.
The move comes as United is investing $2.6 billion into a five-year modernization project at the West Coast hub airport. Set to be completed by 2029, the plans call for an expansion of Terminal 3 which coincide with improvements to the customer experience. The renewed space will feature a new United Club, 200,000 square feet of additional space, and larger common-use gates for international travel.
“We continue to challenge ourselves every season when we announce new service to hidden gem cities around the world,” Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances at United, said in a press release. “United keeps becoming the first and only U.S. airline to offer direct flights to these unique destinations, such as Rome, the Philippines, New Zealand and Belize, out of San Francisco in the last couple of years.”
