MTU Maintenance has announced that it will be expanding its maintenance, overhaul and repair (MRO) capabilities in the United States.
The German firm signed an agreement with GE Aerospace which will enable it to service both LEAP and GEnx aero engines at its facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
The announcement was made during the MRO Americas trade show, being held in Atlanta, Georgia, between April 8 and10, 2025.
MTU’s 43,000 square meter Fort Worth service center is a state-of-the-art facility, which was opened in 2023, and is capable of performing the full disassembly, re-assembly and testing of the engines
After signing a GE Branded Services Agreement (GBSA), MTU Maintenance will now become one of six exclusive Premier MRO service providers for LEAP engines in the world.
The LEAP engine is manufactured by CFM, a consortium between GE Aerospace and French engine maker Safran, to power narrowbody aircraft such as the A320neo family and the B737 MAX.
This expansion follows the opening of another service center for LEAP engines in March 2025, called “XEOS”, at a facility near Wroclaw, Poland. The center is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Lufthansa Technik.
The addition of service centers for new generation engines anticipates a growing demand to service the large number of single-aisle aircraft being sold by the two large aircraft makers, Airbus and Boeing.
“We’re forecasting CFM LEAP shop visits to increase significantly by the end of this decade,” stated Gaël Méheust, President and CEO of CFM International in a press release announcing the opening of MTU’s Texan facility.
MTU and GE Aerospace are also partners in the GEnx program, which produces aero engines for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Boeing 747-8 airliners.
