Hybrid-electric aerospace company, Heart Aerospace, has revealed that it will be closing down its operations in Gothenburg, Sweden and moving them entirely to the United States.
Moving Stateside
Announcing the move in a press release on 30th April, Heart Aerospace have confirmed that the relocation from Sweden to the US will soon be a reality. The company has resided in Sweden since it’s launch in 2019, but in order to scale the business as they’d like, the move is imperative. It does however come at a cost, as it will see 75 jobs lost in Sweden as a result.
Heart Aerospace’s CEO, Anders Forslund confirmed:
“We are deeply grateful to our team in Sweden for being part of this chapter of Heart’s journey, and for all the support we have received in Sweden. However as our customers, partners, and investors are increasingly based in the US, we see greater opportunity in focusing our resources here. By consolidating our operations in Los Angeles, we can accelerate development, strengthen collaboration, and better position Heart Aerospace for the future.”
Heart’s Future
This transition comes at an exciting time for Heart Aerospace with the maiden flight of their experimental prototype ‘X1’ coming up in 2025, marking a major milestone for the company. By the time it takes off from Plattsburgh International Airport, the X1 will be the largest fully electric aircraft ever to fly, with a zero-emissions range of 200 kilometres.
This comes at a time of strong financial momentum for Heart, which raised $107 million in a funding round in 2024 and also secured a further $40 million investment more recently.
Development has already begun on the follow up prototype, the X2, and they plan to develop the key technologies and hybrid-electric hardware in-house, something the US relocation may help with.
