Alabama Crimson Tide Softball To Meet Auburn Tigers on Day 1 of SEC Tournament

One game. Had just one SEC game gone the other way for the Crimson Tide (36-20, 12-12) this season, they would have ended up with an above .500 record in the SEC. It’s not just bragging rights. It’s a résumé bullet point for the NCAA Selection Committee to take note of.

Had just one SEC game gone the other way, Alabama would have gotten a first round bye in the SEC Tournament. As it is, the Tide will play last place Auburn who has not much left to play for other than a chance to ruin their bitter big brother sisters’ hopes for Regional hosting duties. At 31-21 overall and 6-18 in the conference, the Tigers know that they probably need to make some noise in the SECT just for a fleeting hope of making the NCAAT.

Just one game. Game 1 versus Oklahoma comes to mind. The Tide blew a 1-0 lead in the 7th when the Sooners put up a 5-spot. Bama had another 7th inning lead pissed away in Game 3 at Florida. Another one that hurt was losing two of three at home to MSU, back when Patrick Murphy had Lauren Johnson wasting away on the bench. Not sweeping an inept UGA team was another,,, and we could go on. But run-ruling South Carolina and then coming back and scoring three runs in the next two games against a beatable team has to be especially painful.

UPCOMING ALABAMA SCHEDULE

The SEC Tournament starts on Tuesday, May 6 in Athens, GA. The exact starting time for Alabama-Auburn is undetermined as it will start 35 minutes following Game 2. Barring extra innings or weather issues. Game 3 should start around 5:30pm/6:30pm.

Should Alabama get by the 15-seeded War Eagles, they will get a rematch with 7-seed South Carolina on Wednesday around 6:30pm/7:30pm. Survive that and the opponent will be well-rested 2-seed Texas A&M on Thursday around the same time.

HOW TO WATCH

The first three rounds will air on the SEC Network. Announcers are still TBA, but it will likely be Beth Mowins, Michele Smith, et al.
