Alabama superstar shortstop Justin LeBron earned more recognition this week. The sophomore from Miramar, Florida was named the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week, recognizing the top player at his position for the past week. The College Baseball Foundation named LeBron the awardee on Tuesday for his play in the previous weeks games. In a single game game against 19th ranked Troy and a three game series with 6th ranked Georgia, LeBron hit 7-13 for a .538 average with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI, 15 total bases, one walk, one hit by pitch and two stolen bases, as well as playing his normal spectacular defense. The All American had multiple hits in three of the four games.
LeBron was always recognized for his work off the field, being named to the SEC Community Service Team. The SEC names a student-athlete from each school who does outstanding work in the local community. LeBron is known for reading books at local elementary schools, visiting sick children at Children Hospital in Birmingham, and working with the Miracle League, a cause he has championed since his high school days.
With three games left in the regular season, followed by the SEC and NCAA Tournaments, LeBron is hitting .317 and leads the team with 16 doubles, 17 home runs, 65 RBI, 55 runs scored, 134 total bases, a .654 slugging percentage, and is tied for the team lead with 16 stolen bases. The Sports Management major is second on the team in OPS with 1.077, and in total hits with 65.
The Tide is in Gainesville, Florida this week to take on the red hot Florida Gators in a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series. Alabama could be a host in the NCAA Tournament with one win, but more likely will need to win a pair. The games are at 5:30 p.m. CT on Thursday and Friday, and 3 p.m. on Saturday. All will be on SEC Network Plus.
