Review: NV Champagne Mandois Brut Origine

Review: NV Champagne Mandois Brut Origine

Champagne Mandois opened a new winery in 2024, and the first releases from the operation are now arriving. Amon them is this nonvintage Brut Origine, made from 25 year old vines, blended from 40% chardonnay, 30% pinot noir, and 30% pinot meunier. Dosage is 7 grams per liter, making for a rather dry but not bone-dry experience.

Heavy melon notes create an iconic Champagne experience, complemented with a fresh brioche character that adds a chewy yeastiness to the experience. The bubbles are very fine and restrained — this is not an overly fizzy experience — making this an easy sipper as both an aperitif and as a complement at mealtime. Clean on the finish with echoes of cantaloupe and a significant splash of saline, which adds a healthy minerality.

Definitely worth a try as an affordable yet still special-occasion-friendly wine if you’re seeking something a bit away from more mainstream offerings.
