“When you change the way you look at the world, the world you look at CHANGES!”
I’m becoming a bit of a fan of Clare Helen Welsh’s stories, and this little book is a great addition to her growing list of sensitive, heartwarming and thoughtful stories.
Have you ever been grumpy, or sad, or bored? Of course you have! And of course, there’s nothing wrong with those feelings. We all feel some or all of them over the course of a day, week or year.
But did you know that if you put on your Sunny-Side Specs, you can change the way you see things and thereby change the way you feel?
Donning a pair of Sunny-Side Specs can turn a goodbye into a hello! It can turn feeling lonely into a feeling of togetherness and a tearful farewell into a happy new beginning.
With fabulous die-cut peek-through holes and flaps to lift, this interactive story is a great way to help teach children that they can choose the way they think about some situations and learn to find the positives in what might feel like negative circumstances and emotions.
Rather lovely too, is that the story acknowledges that all feelings are valid and that sometimes there might not be a sunny side to find. But that in time, things will start to feel better. Until one day, you might not even need your Sunny-Side Specs at all!
With joyful, multicultural illustrations from Argentinian illustrator Ana Sanfelippo, Sunny Side Up is a wonderful tool to help young children learn about the power of positive thinking and changing perspective.
Sunny Side Up is published by Little Tiger, 2023.
