About the Production:
The Strikebreakers by artist Jonathan González is a site-based, durational performance to be presented at Carnegie Museum of Art as part of the 59th Carnegie International, organized by Kathe and Jim Patrinos Co-Curator, Danielle A. Jackson, in collaboration with Education and Public Programs Director, Dana Bishop-Root, and Public Programs Manager, Blaine Siegel. González works at the intersections of choreography, sculpture, text, and time-based media, and The Strikebreakers iswill be a commissioned work to be performed in August of 2026.
González’s The Strikebreakers continues the artist’s research with slow time performance, Black interiority, architecture, memory cultures and site-based performance. For the 59th Carnegie International, González seeks to devise a durational ensemble performance exploring the shared citational movement vocabularies of steelwork and dance–including touch, proximity, transmission and embodied communication–to consider the intramural relations of African-American workers in the visual and oral archives of the Carrie Furnaces. By transposing and augmenting these scenes of Black labor through a new score for durational performance, The Strikebreakers intends to highlight the nature of entanglement that undergirds the site of work.
About the Performer Role:
Seeking six Pittsburgh-based performers with professional and/or advanced training experience in Dance, Theatrical Movement, and/or Group Athletics. Performers should be comfortable with improvisation, partnering, and choreography. Through the creative process, González will lead performers through the devised score and site-specific choreography. The durational performance is organized across four movements sited across Carnegie Museum of Art’s Grand Staircase.

Performance Scope:

Compensation:
- $1600 Rehearsal Fee
- $2500 Performance Fee
Audition Information:
Jonathan will host a voluntary Zoom orientation on December 15, 2025 from 5–6 p.m. ET. This orientation will be for those interested to learn more about the project and ask any questions.
