Manchester City has reportedly reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush, who is set to sign a five-year contract.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that City finalized the deal to bolster their attacking options for the remainder of the season. Initial negotiations faced challenges when Frankfurt rejected City’s opening bid. The German side valued Marmoush at €80 million (£67.1m/$82m), while City’s initial offer was closer to €60 million (£50.4m/$61.5m).

Marmoush, who joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, has quickly become a standout performer. In 67 appearances for Frankfurt, he has scored 37 goals, solidifying his status as one of the Bundesliga’s most consistent forwards. This season alone, he has tallied 15 league goals, including a strike in Frankfurt’s recent 4-1 victory over Freiburg.

The addition of Marmoush aims to address City’s limited centre-forward options following Julian Alvarez’s summer transfer to Atletico Madrid. Erling Haaland has carried the responsibility of leading the attack, starting all 27 of City’s games across the Premier League and Champions League this season.

Marmoush’s arrival marks one of several January acquisitions for Manchester City. The club has also invested over £60 million ($73m) to secure young centre-backs Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. These signings align with City’s strategy to rejuvenate their squad and strengthen their push for success in the second half of the season.

City will return to Premier League action on Sunday with a match against Ipswich.
