Disney+ in Canada is set to have more content from Toei Animation. On November 19th, the streamer added the entirety of Dragon Ball Super, with Digimon Adventure and Dragon Ball Z Kai set for December 3rd and 17th, respectively. Super is reportedly only available in its English dubbed form.
The additions are likely part of Disney’s push to ensure the Canadian side mirrors their streaming library in the United States. Toei offers Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Daima, Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, Digimon Tamers, Digimon Frontier, Digimon Beatbreak, One Piece and Toriko on Hulu in the country. The Dragon Ball and Digimon franchises have had recent contract renewals, probably allowing Canada into the picture. I stress that this is likely just a clone of what’s available in the U.S. to temper any hopes.
Continuing anime additions on Disney+ in December include Cat’s Eye, Disney Twisted-Wonderland: The Animation, One Punch Man season 3 and Wandance.
Crave adds CTV.ca and Nickelodeon content
Elsewhere, Bell Media’s own video-on-demand platform Crave is expanding. Earlier this week, the service added the content found on CTV.ca, which includes material from the company’s linear channels and the CTV Throwback/Movies categories. The change ads free content to Crave for the first time, as the catch-up episodes and CTV Throwback/Movies can be viewed without a paid subscription. A Bell Media account is required to access those on Crave and you will get commercials. There are no changes to CTV.ca.
As part of this expansion, Crave is again pledging to expand their meagre kids offering with content from Nickelodeon. Episodes from iCarly and the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series are currently available, with A Fairly Odd Christmas joining in December, as Bell promises “a wide selection” coming soon.
The news comes months after Nickelodeon’s long-term partnership with Corus Entertainment ended. While Paramount+ should remain the main home for that library, it looks like the company is once again open to licensing out the back catalog to other players.
