Athena
Athena is a juvenile, green sea turtle who was found out of habitat in the Steinhatchee area in Dixie county on Nov. 25th. Athena was rescued by our partners at UF Marine Animal Rescue and then transported to CMA. It is believed Athena was stranded out of habitat because of a recent king tide event. Athena has a small case of fibropapilloma tumors and is in overall good body condition.

Athena did well on their first swim test. There was no abnormal behaviors observed in water.

Athena has been doing well in water. They are able to rest on the bottom, and they are eating on their own! They are currently on antibiotics based on recent labwork.
All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-25/26-172.
