A Benefit Show For A Pioneer – Texx and the City

The SA music industry lost a pioneer last week. Thabo “Rock Ruler” Masina, drummer and vocalist for Soweto band Shameless, passed away on the 4th of December. Masina, along with Shameless, was instrumental in innovating a unique sound. In their own words, “Shameless is about giving people a chance to expand their consciousness and to be themselves.” That is something the band did well, and Masina will be remembered for being a great musician and showman. Beyond that, Masina was a father, brother, and friend.

To honour him and to support his family as they head towards a time of uncertainty, his bandmates and a few peers have decided to have a benefit show for the family.

“For the Love of Rock” will take place at Railways Cafe on the 14th of December and will feature local bands ATFN, Aura Electric, Crash and The Void, Lefokolodi, and Twenty One Children. Shameless will be playing an acoustic set to honour their fallen brother. Tickets for the event will be available at the door for R100, and all proceeds will be given to the Masina family.

Join Shameless and the rest of the Gauteng punk scene to bid farewell to one of their own. Our hearts go out to the Masina family.

Nkabi Rock will live on through the continued growth of the alternative scene in Soweto and through the fond memories many are left with.
