Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 162 Manga Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

While the members of Fire & Flame look on in horror, Natsu questions whether Ignia is truly Igneel’s son since Igneel love humanity. Ignia scoffs at this and states his purpose–the True Dragon King’s Festival, which is between humans and dragons. While he speaks, someone crashes through his castle into his throne room to correct Ignia.

Elsewhere, Ued informs Erza about the True Dragon King’s Festival. They see the dark beam emitting from the castle after hearing the explosion. As Misfortune tells Ued they must leave, Lucy, Wendy, Gray, Charle, and Happy show up. Happy gets excited seeing the female Exceed covered in flame. The two start flirting, irritating Charle. Ued and Misfortune leave, so Gray suggests they head to the castle as well.

In the castle, the dark magic entity tells Ignia that there had been a Dragon King’s Festival. It had been between humans, Acnologia, and dark wizards. Thus Ignia is missing dark wizards for his festival. The energy clears, and a dark skinned woman announces herself as the dark wizard Faris. Further, she says she’ll enter the festival.

Natsu is surprised to see Faris in this form. Ignia becomes concerned as he senses Acnologia emitting from her.

Thoughts/Review:

One thing I’ll give credit to Mashima-sensei is his unexpected plot twists. That would of course be the return of Faris in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 162. As I see it, there are a few ways this could go. Somehow, the original Faris went dark side and returned. Possible, but I don’t think it is likely.

Second, this Faris is from some other world. That feels more likely to me, especially with Ignia sensing the presence of Acnologia on her. In my mind, I can see an alternate universe Faris absorbing the power of that world’s Acnologia. It would fit with the pattern we’ve seen of alternate universe influences on the world of Fairy Tail. And it does pique my curiosity.

We still don’t know what Ignia was cooking in that labyrinth to prepare for his True Dragon King Festival. However, I’m guessing that based on dark Faris’s arrival, she may partially nullify whatever advantage he had planned with that. Well, that’s assuming she battles the dragons and humans, which I suspect is what will happen.

Finally, we get the usual jealousy from Charle when Happy goes gooey over a new, female cat. If she would just marry Happy (or whatever the Exceed do), maybe he wouldn’t fawn over other girls so much.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 162 contains an interesting plot twist to keep the readers off balance and reduce their boredom with the same old, same old.
