Temperatures have dropped sharply across Karnataka, with Bengaluru recording cold mornings and nights. IMD has issued cold wave warnings for several districts over the next two days.
A look back at the records shows that in 2016, Bengaluru experienced its coldest December in the last decade. On December 11 that year, the city recorded a low of 12 degrees Celsius.
Bidar emerged as the coldest place in Karnataka, recording a minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius. Some parts of the district saw temperatures fall between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius. Overall, Bidar district reported an average minimum of 10.1 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over Belagavi, Bagalkot, Bidar, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Raichur and Yadgir over the next two days. These conditions may gradually ease as temperatures begin to rise slowly.
In contrast, no major change has been observed in Coastal Karnataka and parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru.
Bengaluru is expected to remain particularly cold during the night and early morning hours. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay warm and take necessary precautions.
