Good news from a tough year


There are still many challenges facing Australia’s beer and brewing industry, but here are some of the good news stories from 2025.

It has been an incredible ride for the Mountain Culture team in recent years. With its three-peat as the winning beer in the GABS Hottest 100, and subsequent growth explosion, Mountain Culture is a true Aussie success story. That continued in May with the news that Mountain Culture had acquired Fox Friday Brewing and its associated entities from its administrators. The team also opened its first Tasmanian venue, its first Melbourne brewpub, and won Brewer of the year at the B&B Awards.

For the sixth consecutive year, Gage Road and Pink Boots released a special International Women’s Day beer to help fund scholarships to support the progression of women in the brewing industry.

Following a two-year restoration and brewery modernisation project, the doors to the historic Goulburn Brewery reopened in August.

The Commercial Hotel Boonah is a heritage-listed pub in Queenland’s Scenic Rim region, being restored by the Ghanem Group, who announced in May the Boonah Brewing Co will be added to the pub’s offering.

Everyone knows everything that Chuck Hahn means to Australia’s craft brewing industry. This year the veteran launched a new independent beer brand – Daughter – developed in collaboration with his daughter-in-law and co-founder of Chuck & Son’s Brewing Co, Amy Malpass Hahn.

The no-alcohol drinks sector is projected to expand by more than $4 billion globally, with no-alcohol beer at the forefront of this growth in Australia.

Founder of Modus, Jaz Wearin, shared her journey from corporate worker to brewery founder with B&B’s Deb Jackson.

Popular Western Australia, Beerfarm, showed there is hope for growth by implementing a national growth strategy with an expansion to New South Wales, bringing its award-winning beer and immersive hospitality to Glenworth Valley on the Central Coast.

Fermentis has continued to push its role as an industry leader and innovator, by developing products to help brewers and breweries, thanks to a groundbreaking improvement in microbiological standards.
